Texas A&M football‘s chance at a College Football Playoff spot took a huge hit Saturday with a disappointing loss to Auburn.
The Aggies were down 21-7 at the half, but roared back to take a late lead. An Amari Daniels touchdown run with 4 minutes left gave A&M a three-point edge. That 31-28 advantage was short-lived as Auburn kicker Ian Vachon nailed a 41-yarder to take the game to overtime.
Four overtime periods later, once the game moved from attempts at touchdowns to 2-point conversion attempts, a Tiger completion followed by an Aggies dropped sealed A&M’s fate — for the game and possibly the postseason.
The Tigers jumped on the Aggies early, scoring 21 unanswered points to start the game, aided by a missed field goal from Randy Bond and an interception by Marcel Reed deep in Auburn’s territory.
A&M has struggled to stop the running game while also giving up explosive plays that put them in a hole.
Auburn finished the first two quarters with 240 total yards, with 190 coming in the air. They were led by freshman wide receiver Cam Coleman who entered the break with four receptions, 112 yards, and two touchdowns. Coleman ended with seven catches for 128 yards.
